EDUCATION PORTAL

The Blockchain Institute was founded with the purpose of providing accessible education on blockchain technology and its applications. Our courses are offered both in-person and online and provide training in a wide range of blockchain and cryptocurrency skills.

Whether you’re an educational organization or a blockchain related corporation, it’s our mission to help guide the conversation and ensure reliable content. Please visit our downloads centre and links page for online resources.

Our flagship location will be opening in Uptown Chicago in early 2019, but in the mean time please contact us to schedule an on-site seminar for your organization.

BLOCKCHAIN 101

Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and blockchain are technologies that are increasingly in the public eye. This trend began just over a decade ago with a conceptual paper by Satoshi Nakamoto, an unidentified person (or group of people) who sought to develop a process that would prevent a repeat of the 2008-2009 global economic catastrophe.  Since then, the blockchain has emerged as an important technological implementation for individuals, governments and corporations alike. The goal of this course is to familiarize students with the unique intricacies of the blockchain and its many iterations, from Bitcoin to smart contracts, decentralized networks, and consensus mechanisms.
Introduction to the blockchain
DECENTRALIZATION and distributed ledgers
Components of a block

BITCOIN FOR DEVELOPERS

The demand for blockchain savvy developers has skyrocketed. This course will give developers the tools they need to integrate Bitcoin technology into their existing platforms. Develop an understanding of how Bitcoin transactions work, how wallets work and how to integrate Bitcoin payments. This course was built for developers who are comfortable on a unix based command line.

BLOCKCHAIN SECURITY

One of the primary reasons blockchain systems have received widespread attention has been their ability to provide secure networks without trusting a central entity. Despite this, there are some limitations of the blockchain approach, and understanding them is key to properly deploying new products and solutions.

DECENTRALIZED STORAGE

Decentralized Storage offers compelling features for the health & future of the internet! Along with increased resilience from censorship, peer-to-peer protocols are able to become faster with popularity rather than slow down from a bottleneck as with centralized servers. What does this mean for the Decentralized Web? This course will familiarize you with the basics of decentralized storage.

BACKGROUND OF STORAGE TECHNOLOGY
IPFS AND CURRENT TECHNOLOGIES
USING DECENTRALIZED ALTERNATIVES

INTRO TO IPFS

In 2017, the Interplanetary File System proposed a new way of sharing media over the internet. Instead of centralized servers, IPFS uses a peer to peer network to host files. With the Filecoin test network scheduled for launch in 2019, now is the perfect time to brush up on this technology. In this module, we’ll explore the basics of this new protocol as it compares to traditional options.

HYPERLEDGER APPLIED

This course covers how blockchains can be applied in a private ecosystem. We’ll explore the benefits of private blockchains, and how Hyperledger combines the benefits of distributed ledgers with the predictability of enterprise software.
