Blockchain Forks {talk}

October 12, 2019

Details

Paul, CEO of the Edge wallet, will discuss the implications of a hard fork, what exactly it means, and how it affects the average bitcoin and cryptocurrency user.

He’ll also go over the differences between hard forks such as Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin SV, and Ethereum Classic. You will get a thorough understanding of what replay attacks are and the various forms of replay protection that can and have been implemented to minimize the impact of hard forks. Paul will also discuss the economic incentives and motivations behind various types of forks. Most importantly, you will learn how to prevent possible loss of funds with proper pre-fork and post-fork precautions on various wallet types, using Edge as an example.

Paul is CEO and Co-Founder of Edge, a non-custodial exchange and security platform for blockchain applications. Edge (formerly Airbitz) has won accolades including being one of the top 3 mobile apps for bitcoin in the 2014 Blockchain Awards, being voted in the ‘Top 50 FinTech Companies to Watch’ by AlwaysOn Inc, and receiving first place in the Inside Bitcoins 2015 and Coin Agenda 2016 pitch competitions. Paul held lead engineering positions with Nvidia and Chromatic Research and holds a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from UC Berkeley

Lightning Talks: This talk will include lightning talks by community members. In 2 minutes anyone can present their idea, ask for help, recruit partners, or launch new projects. It’s a perfect opportunity to find co-founders, coders, advisors, designers, and clients to help make your idea a reality. If you would like to present, please send BOB a message via the meetup.com group. There will be a limited number of spots, first come first serve.

Who should attend? All ages and experience levels are welcome. If you’re new, you’ll find friendly faces excited and ready to show you the ropes. If you’re a Bitcoin or open-blockchain expert, you’ll find like-minded people to discuss new or existing projects with.

Logistics: The event will be held at 2 pm at mHUB, which is an innovation center for physical product development and manufacturing and a co-working community. It is located just east of Chicago Ave and Milwaukee Ave, just a few blocks from the Kennedy expressway and the Blue line. We will be in the classroom in the back. Look for the BOB signs and we will be in the lobby to guide you back to the correct room when you arrive.
